Administration

The new qualifications are built on a firm foundation of knowledge and understanding of practitioner roles and values, set within contemporary sector-specific contexts. The qualifications include a breadth and depth of learning, including the underpinning of core values within the sectors, in addition to the relationships between contemporary policies and service provision and the impact of financial challenges on service provision in the UK. This qualification is on the DfE 2020 Performance Tables. The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that those qualifications approved for inclusion in the 2020 performance tables will also be included in performance tables for 2021, 2021 and 2023.

The Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care has been designed to enable learners to access Higher Education or assist with progression into the workplace. This qualification promotes high quality care and support and has been mapped to the standards within the Care Certificate. The programme contains several different units of assessment, all of which sit within the ‘Regulated Qualification Framework’ (RQF). Credits are achieved for each unit completed (please see unit listing below for more detail).This qualification does not provide a licence to practise, but may support progression into a wide range of job roles in the health and social care sector, including: Centres following the WJEC Level 3 Applied Certificate and Diploma in Health and Social Care need to ensure that they are following the appropriate specification and sample assessment materials, as these can be subject to change due to the DfE Performance Tables. At the end of this course successful learners will be given the option to receive a Certificate of Achievement from the Quality Licence Scheme and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course). To gain these qualifications, you need to show you've got a particular set of skills. You will work with your training provider to review your current skills and find the best way to gain new ones - perhaps by studying, or by trying new things at work. The programme provides a framework to assess the learner’s competency relating to the health and social care sector. It has been designed to support the carer’s role in the workplace, and provides a pathway to higher level qualifications. Although there are no formal entry requirements, the qualifications support progression from Level 2, particularly the new Level 1/2 Vocational Awards in Health and Social Care and Child Development and GCSEs in Sociology and related subjects. The qualifications are designed to be delivered over two years and are likely to be studied in schools or colleges alongside GCE A Levels and other qualifications.

Teaching support & training

Teaching from 2017 All centres that started the Level 3 Applied Certificate or Diploma in Health and Social Care in 2017 must follow Version 1 of the Specification and use Version 1 of the Sample Assessment Materials. You want to develop or demonstrate your skills, perhaps to become a senior care worker.
